Welcome to Napa Valley Playhouse
An 8 x 10 Holiday; Dec. 6-22, 2013 PDF Print E-mail

On stage December 6 - 22, 2013

"An 8 x 10 Holiday: A Festival of 10 Minute Plays" will be presented December 6-22, 2013, co-produced by Lucky Penny Productions and Napa Valley Playhouse. This second annual short play event will feature new, previously unproduced works with some connection in theme, character, plot or setting to the end of the year or holidays.

The plays in the program will be selected by a panel which will read "blind" copies of the scripts – they will not know the names of the authors – and all plays will have four or fewer characters and minimal sets, lighting and other technical needs to keep the focus on stories and characters. Each play selected by the reading panel will be assigned to a director who will cast and rehearse the play and prepare it for presentation.

The author whose play is voted by the audiences as the "People's Choice" will receive a $100 honorarium.

Le Jazz Hot
One Night Only!
January 18th, 2014 at 8pm

Le Jazz Hot (the Quartet/Trio of the Hot Club of San Francisco) is an ensemble of accomplished and versatile musicians celebrating the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli’s pioneering Hot Club de France. The ensemble borrows the all-string instrumentation of violin, bass and guitars from the original Hot Club, but breathes new life into the music with innovative arrangements of classic tunes and original compositions from the group's superb lead guitarist Paul Mehling. Hearing the ensemble live, or on any of their 13 albums, carries the listener back to the 1930's and to the small, smoky jazz clubs of Paris or the refined lounges of the famous Hotel Ritz. Often called gypsy jazz, the music of Le Jazz Hot has entranced audiences around the globe for over 22 years. Critics have hailed the group's playing as "intricate, scorching and often brilliant…" Acoustic Guitar. From festivals in Mexico and France to concert halls across North America, The Hot Club of San Francisco keeps this historic music fresh and alive.
